Being able to move freely is a crucial aspect of all living beings’ existence; without it, our bodies and minds can suffer terribly. So when we hear the buzzword “functional,” it often conjures up images of throwing medicine balls around and doing endless farmer’s walks. But let’s break down what functional training means:
𝑭𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚. 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒆𝒙𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒘𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔. 𝑬𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆. 𝑻𝒉𝒖𝒔 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒖𝒔 𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚.
So why say function equals freedom? Well, Do you want to be physically free to move how you want and be freed from many health issues caused by poor lifestyle choices? Then you have to train for it and foster the discipline to eat right and consistently train. So prepare for life and become fit for purpose. Incorporate movement training to decrease the likelihood of physical injury and increase motor efficiency and overall quality of life.
Functional Fitness may have become overcomplicated by the industry, but it isn’t to be overlooked, nor the challenge it comes with!
